You don\u2019t need to follow those steps (and if you don\u2019t have ArcGIS for Desktop, you cannot) and may just grab the resulted layer file in various formats at the end of this post. Linking County shapefile with State shapefile (from 9.3 version data DVD) \u2013 to get state abbreviation in table with FIPS. Export joint file as shapefile and clean table of not needed state records.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ExternalClass5A3DEA1DA48348298B6B912DCDE86EB8\">3. Download new county shapefile with 2010 demographics and 2007 farm data of ArcGIS Online. In the attribute table, select Options &gt; Export.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">Specify a name and location for the new table.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">Add the new table to current map.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_9_5FC33B5A.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image_thumb_9_5FC33B5A\" src=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_9_5FC33B5A_thumb.png\" alt=\"image_thumb_9_5FC33B5A\" width=\"244\" height=\"109\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">Go to your map Legend (Table of Content) and choose to display XY data:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_10_5FC33B5A.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image_thumb_10_5FC33B5A\" src=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_10_5FC33B5A_thumb.png\" alt=\"image_thumb_10_5FC33B5A\" width=\"190\" height=\"244\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>4. Oops! Where are the center points? If you had selected wrong projection for your original map they might all be stuck in the middle of whole USA as a tiny replica:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_12_0DB08E13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image_thumb_12_0DB08E13\" src=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_12_0DB08E13_thumb.png\" alt=\"image_thumb_12_0DB08E13\" width=\"244\" height=\"214\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_11_0DB08E13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image_thumb_11_0DB08E13\" src=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_11_0DB08E13_thumb.png\" alt=\"image_thumb_11_0DB08E13\" width=\"244\" height=\"129\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">You will need to go and change a projection to Geographic WGS 1984.prj<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_13_0DB08E13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image_thumb_13_0DB08E13\" src=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_13_0DB08E13_thumb.png\" alt=\"image_thumb_13_0DB08E13\" width=\"244\" height=\"174\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">Finally, you\u2019re your new point data layer matches your map extent!<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_14_0DB08E13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image_thumb_14_0DB08E13\" src=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_14_0DB08E13_thumb.png\" alt=\"image_thumb_14_0DB08E13\" width=\"244\" height=\"176\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>5. Now, you will need to export the Event Layer to a shapefile by right-clicking on the layer and navigating to Data &gt; Export Data.<a href=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_17_5FC33B5A.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image_thumb_17_5FC33B5A\" src=\"http:\/\/landviser.net\/sites\/default\/files\/image_thumb_17_5FC33B5A_thumb.png\" alt=\"image_thumb_17_5FC33B5A\" width=\"217\" height=\"152\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>6. Spatially Join the center point in the file created in step 6 to the data layer created in step 2. Delete duplicate fields in joint shapefile.
